What you should know about bore water

Posted on

If you are curious about using natural resources for your water supply, you might have considered bore water. This type of water comes from rainfall, where the water is stored in the ground. These are called aquifiers. They can be extracted from bore water drillers, then used for different sources. However, it is not generally safe enough to drink without being filtered. Here is more information about bore water.

Bore Water May be Contaminated

It is important to note that bore water is not typically clean enough to drink or use as-is. Since there are often bore holes that cause contamination, it can have a bitter, iron taste, and cause adverse reactions to people that drink it. It is also not suitable as a type of water to rely on, since it is not unlimited. The amount of available bore water is directly related to how much rainfall there is. The aquifiers must absorb the rainfall as well. Also consider that a lot of salt can get into the bore water due to local seawater, which makes it not suitable for other uses, such as gardening.

Some Bore Water is Better Than Others

While some bore water can't be used for watering your yard and garden, some of it is actually higher quality and may be suitable. The better quality bore water is from the deeper aquifiers. These are kept far from contaminants like pesticides and animals that may be in the area. Industrial processes can also affect shallow bore holes. Generally, if you want to use bore water for your garden, you need to test the pH level with test trips to see if it is safe to use.

It May Be Used in the Household

Some of the bore water can also be used for household purposes, though it depends on the quality of the water and the use. While it shouldn't be consumed, you may be able to use your bore water to wash clothing or flush toilets, as well as wash your car. This water doesn't come in direct contact with sources of consumption. Your clothing is not only washed with the bore water, but also laundry detergent, which helps to clean the clothing in case the water is partially contaminated. If you have access to bore water, it is a good idea to use it when available for water consumption purposes.

Remember not to use bore water for preparing food, adding to edible herbs and plants, bathing, or filling swimming pools unless it has been properly tested.
